We`ll meet you at your hotel early in the morning for travel to the ruins of Tambomachay, our trek departure point. We will meet our muleteers here, and begin along the main road, as it curves sharply up hill to reach a pass at approximately 4200 meters. We will continue follow the road down into valley and through a small community at the bottom. As we descend, we will enjoy views of the beautifully green valley stretching below us. Passing through the village and across a bridge, the trail takes us over the second pass at around 4300 meters , and into high open country. We will break to take in Lake Qoricocha (Golden Lake in Quechua), then continue along the trail. After reaching the highest point of the trek, at 4350 meters, we descend towards the community of Pucamarca at 4010m. From there, we will be able to observe part of the Sacred Valley of the Inca, before arriving at the archaeological complex of Huchuy Q’osqo, where we will have dinner and camp for the night.
Duration: 7 hours/12 km
After an early breakfast, we will have a tour with your guide of the Huchuy Qosco ruins. We will take our time to explore the ruins, then continue our hike. After a short, easy walk (approximately two hours), we will arrive in the picturesque Sacred Valley town of Lamay. We will break for lunch here, before saying goodbye to our cook and muleteers and continuing by van to the town of Ollantaytambo. Depending on the time, we will explore this pretty and interesting town before boarding our train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we will check into our hostal, rest and refresh, then enjoy dinner in an local restaurant.Duration: 2 hours/ 4 km
After an early breakfast, we will leave our luggage at the hostel and depart for Machu Picchu. The bus trip takes about 20 minutes, and you have the option of hiking up as well (1.5 hours). Our goal is to get to Machu Picchu as early as possible, because at this time the site is less crowded, and we will have the best chance to enjoy its beauty, mystery, and magic in peace. You will take a guided tour for about 2.5 hours, and then you will have free time to explore the site on your own. There is also time to climb Huayna Picchu and get the best views of Machu Picchu from above, or you may choose to visit the Temple of the Moon, which is located behind Huayna Picchu. After a later lunch, we will board our return train toward Cusco.
